Counsellors’ Reaction to the Implementation of Guidance and Counselling Services in Lagos State school system.

Abstract

This study examined school counsellors’ reaction to the implementation of guidance services in secondary schools in Lagos State. Four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. Researcher designed questionnaire was administered to 127 counsellors representing all the Local Education Districts in Lagos State. Findings revealed that guidance and counselling services are available in Lagos State schools and counsellors are also satisfied with their involvement in the implementation of available counselling services in their schools. Recommendations however include; improvement in areas where there are deficiencies such as; setting up career libraries. There is also need to encourage counsellors in the Lagos State school system to go for in-service training programmes to enable them to gain more knowledge on how to help different categories of individuals cope with their varying degrees of challenges.
