Factors that hinder Work-Place Counselling services in Nigeria.

Abstract

This article examined workplace counselling services in Nigeria; outlining the views of other authors on workplace counselling, its importance, the role of professional counsellors and the services they can render in the workplace. The factors that might hinder workplace counselling services in Nigeria were highlighted. These factors include the cultural beliefs and religious preferences of Nigerians. While the Human Resource departments of organizations may have various packages in place regarding employee welfare, workplace counselling will be an added boost to these packages because of its immeasurable benefits to employee health, mental and emotional stability; and the creation of a more collaborative and healthy work environment.
