Abstract

Across the world, students in institutions of higher learning experience similar problems which may be academic, vocational, emotional, social, psychological, physiological or environmental. These problems have placed enough burden on students and may have been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic which invariably would affect their mental health and psychological well-being. This book chapter examined the concept of mental health and psychological well-being. The scale of the problem among students in Universities in Nigeria and some other countries across the world were outlined. Innovations introduced to improve mental health and psychological well-being of students in higher institutions across the world before the COVID-19 were also examined. Suggestions were made as to how students with mental health problems can access help and how psychological wellbeing of students can be improved, especially during and beyond any crisis situation such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
